I Mad? Sumadiyasa who goes by the name MAD? was born in Lalanglinggah, Bali 8 February 1971, MAD? is a young and dynamic Balinese artist whose expressive paintings encompass a universal spirit. His visual language goes beyond form and illusion, creating intense levels of emotion. He focuses on movement and color to bring out the spiritual essence of his subject. From the greatness of the natural world to the influence of culture and technology on the environment and humanity, MAD? continues to discover unlimited sources of inspiration for his artistry.
A graduate of the Indonesia Institute of Art (ISI Yogyakarta, Indonesia) in 1997, MAD? was the first Indonesian artist invited to participate in the prestigious ART ASIA International Fine Arts Exhibition held in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, Hong Kong, 1995. In 1996, MAD? was the first Indonesian artist to have his painting (The Way to Eternity) featured on the full-cover of the prestigious ASIAN ART NEWS magazine (March-April 1996).
MAD? has received 10 Art Awards, including best painting and sketches from the Indonesia Institute of Art (ISI Yogyakarta 1993, 1994). Since 1989 MAD? was participated in group and solo exhibitions in Indonesia, Hong Kong, Japan and Italy. MAD?s work is in the collections of many private collectors around the world; Singapore, Singapore Art Museum, Thailand, Hong Kong, Japan, Italy, France, England, Ireland, Germany, Holland, Switzerland, USA, Australia and New Zealand as well as Bali, Surabaya and Jakarta. In Indonesia his work is prominently displayed at the Neka Art Museum and ARMA (Agung Rai Museum of Art), Ubud, Bali, Indonesia.
