April 9 2004 till May 25 2004
A Solo Exhibition of Blue Paintings
Gaya Gallery, the leading contemporary art space in Bali, presents the ?Blue of Karja,? a one-man show by Wayan Karja. The Opening will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, 9 April 2004, at Gaya Fusion of Senses, J. Raya Sayan, Ubud, Bali. The exhibition will continue until 25 May 2004.
The title of this exhibition is the color blue, a color in which Karja found peacefulness. Its theme is both a resurgence and a milestone for Karja. His shift to a body of work painted in blue and green mark a new period in Karja?s painting, in contrast to his previous work in red, yellow and orange. It is being presented to the public at Gaya Fusion of Senses.
A neon bulb is shining in blue. It is intalled just in the center of the gallery's projection room, as the part of the installation of the Blue of Karja
The high, wide, and carefully designed wall space of the gallery could maximise natural light throughout the day, walls that do not impose themselves on the artist but strive to remain open for the artist to create his own reality.
The composition of Karja's blue paintings seems to be in its perfect position in the left side of the gallery's wall
The theme of the art installation of Blue of Karja is Searching for Balance. The composition goes as follows. Karja uses five ladders made of bamboo which are just installed in four pillars of the gallery. One ladder is installed just in front of the projection room. The entire wall of the projection room is painted in blue including the ceiling and a neon bulb is installed as well inside the room. Karja also provides blue paper to be thrown into the floor of the room. It is aimed to enable viewers in making participation in this art installation concept. Karja believes that the ladder is a good symbol for state of balance.
