Gaya Gallery, the leading contemporary art space in Bali, presents ?Simply White?, a ceramic exhibition by trio Italian artists named Marcello Massoni, Michela Foppiani and Giorgia. The opening will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday September 24th 2004 at Gaya Fusion of Senses, J. Raya Sayan, Ubud, Bali. The exhibition will continue until October 18th 2004
Concept of the Works
It is our hope as artists to make our work speak for itself, without justification, explanation, or the complex struggle to find literary equivalents for creative impulses that we manifest as ceramic objects.
Through study, experiment and a constant accumulation of skill, we search for the technical proficiency to translate the stimuli around us, large and small, into objects that uncover the shapes, colours and expressions from within the world. We try to do this honestly and without discrimination.
The poetry of the ?one flower vase?, is an experiment in spontaneity. The approach to the clay shows a nearly infinite range of new outlines and possibilities, and reverses common ideas of material and position.
If we must use words, we prefer the word "clay". We love concrete moods, and the relation of this word with the real is solid. This tangible solidity of clay grounds the uncertain situations and surprise, the mystery and the alchemy, of the ceramic process.
Our every-day is a fusion of sure and unsure circumstances, an infinite world of technical precision and mistakes, hard work and delusions, simplicity and happiness. For us, nothing is more lovely.
