Collective Show from ISI Denpasar
Gaya Gallery, the leading contemporary art space in Bali, in cooperation with Indonesia Art Institute Denpasar (ISI), present painting and mural artworks exhibition entitled INITIATION. It is an exhibition of four students from ISI Denpasar, Design and Art Visual Faculty. The show will be curated by Wayan Karja who is also the Dean of the faculty and will be officially opened on Wednesday April 20th 2005 at 7 pm at Gaya Gallery, Jalan Raya Sayan Ubud Bali.
The central theme of INITIATION, which will be run through may 20th 2005, is mural artworks (painting on walls) which are created by the four students namely Dodit Artawan, Ketut Moniarta, Wayan Dania and Tien Hong. Dodit Artawan and Moniarta will paint on a wall which is approximately 13,8 x 4 meter in width, using geometrical strip lines while a Pocari Sweat cane (coke cane) as the center point. On the other side, he paints "rice cooker" made of the repetition of shape of rice. On the other wall, Tien Hong paints a repetition of shape of balloon using yellow circle as the center point. It is quite similar to the picture of the sun and the moon. Meanwhile Dania paints popular icons that according to him can be as the representative of mazab. He makes a repetition of popular icons in parody way in order to re-gain the actual meaning.
The show is mainly aimed at developing the creativity and increasing the innovation and experiment sense among art community, especially in ISI Denpasar. It is also aimed at awarding people that the art world in Bali is not only about traditional painting but modern and contemporary art as well.
