Art between cultures

?Peter Dittmars artworks are a metaphor for our world in which cultures have to open up towards each others?

Dr. Hans Georg Knopp, Director of ?House of WORLD-CULTURES?, Berlin, 2005

The artworks in this show are very typically for PETER DITTMAR who has created paintings in Bali since 1982.
As a German artist living in Asia such a long time his paintings became a synthesis of both worlds, the way he is living between cultures. As a result we find a sort of cross cultural or hybrid art. Art that is not typical Western and not typical Eastern but both EAST&WEST at the same time.

He found his own way of authentic symbolic expression for Hindu and Buddhist philosophical contents in his artworks, paintings as well as installations and trying to point towards fundamental secrets - TAKSU - in live and arts. His materials he works with are hand made papers and mixed media on teak plywood. His ?language of painting? has a strength and simplicity that reminds on the calligraphy of ZEN MASTERS and in Bali on the drawings of Gusti Nyoman LEMPAD who?s art Dittmar highly repects and adores. Peter Dittmar is after Walter Spies the second remarkable German artist that has created an important body of work in Bali.

The show is at the time Dittmar celebrates his 60th birthday. 10 years ago he had a one man show at ARMA Museum to celebrate his 50th birthday with a survey show. After the GAYA exhibition he will have a big retrospective exhibition featuring 200 paintings form 45 years in his hometown MUNICH in GERMANY that will be opened on 26. October 2005.

At the opening there will be the
